Cesky Krumlov

You must be wondering why the sudden silence. Well I have been away on a 3-night stay in the enchanting island of Bali so that will be my next travel tale and also busy with the Chinese New Year preparation. Well now I can continue my Eastern Europe travel here.

From Prague, we continue our journey to Salzburg and we made a very interesting stop while on our way there. This was at the town of Cesky Krumlov, reputed to be one of the finest medieval town in the Czech Republic. When we arrived, we were greeted by the wall of the castle (the Zamek) on the hill, or actually part of the castle.




On the way up to the castle, you get a very good view of the surrounding area and the old town.

There is also a garden where performances are held in the summer.






From the castle, you descend onto the old cobbled streets of Cesky Krumlov.







There is also a small town square.







Lunch was at a cozy restaurant where not only the food was lovely, the waitress was lovely as well.


As the river Vltava meanders through the town, you get very beautiful views but it has also caused some severe damages when it flooded some years back.





There are shops selling all kinds of stuff which you may take back if you fancy them.






After this very relaxing tour, we then continued our journey to Salzburg and we arrived there in the evening. After checking in, we had our dinner in a nearby Chinese restaurant where they served the usual tourist fare.

Prague in the afternoon

After the satisfying lunch, we continued our walking tour, this time towards the Charles Bridge. It was like travelling back in time walking on cobblestones and passing all the old buildings. Just imagine that the cars are not there!

There were a lot of shops along the way and many of them were selling all types of puppets, many of them eerie looking ones.






Soon we arrived at one end the Charles Bridge where the crowd thickens.



As we walked across the bridge, there were various statues and many stalls selling souvenirs and other touristic items.............







and also street or bridge musicians to be exact.


This statue is special (the statue of St.John of Nepomuk) as it is believed that rubbing the saint shown on the right panel will bring good luck or you will return to Prague. Hence the shiny surface after all the rubbing!


On the bridge, you have scenic views of the Vlata River, the longest in the Czech Republic.



On the other side of the river, you have more buildings to admire.........




and the grand St. Vitus Cathedral and Prague Castle in the background across the river........

forming a perfect backdrop for our group photograph.
